Which name spelling do you prefer?

My husband and I are thinking of naming our daughter Alaina, but aren't sure how we should spell it. Which spelling do you like the best: Alaina, Alana, or Elena? ....Personally, I'm partial to Alaina, because with that spelling, there seems to be the least confusion as to how to pronounce it. I'm afraid people will tend to pronounce "Alana" as "A-Lon-uh" and "Elena" as "Ellen-a" or "A-Leen-uh." ....What do you think?

Reply:I like Elena. It is less common than Alaina or Alana. My last name is always mispronounced. Of course that won't change until I am married, but whichever way that you spell this name, I think it may be mispronounced. Although if it is any consolation, I knew that all the spelling variations of the name were A-lane-a. Good Luck!

Reply:Personally I prefer Elena, but I understand your concern over pronunciation issues. I agree that Alaina seems the best way to spell the name to get the pronunciation you're looking for. BTW, I think it's a lovely name and I adore the nickname possibility, Lainey.

Reply:I agree that "Alaina" leaves no confusion as to how you would like it to be pronounced. As a pp suggested, "Alayna" would also clear the confusion, and I like both spellings quite well. What a pretty name.

Reply:Alaina or Alayna are the least likely to be pronounced incorrectly. I would probally be one of those people that pronounced the other two wrong.

Reply:My husband and I also like the name Alaina. We choose the spelling Alaina because it was easy to recognize, and the chance of it being mispronounced was lower.
