Wrong spelling in first name on air ticket?

I am flyin in a week to the US but whilst printing out my e-ticket i have just read that the travel agents have missed out one letter of my gran's name so instead of : LilAvanti its Lilvanti. will this matter? the travel agents are shut until Monday so what else can i do? because the essence of the name is still there. please help me!!!!!! will be VERY appreciated!

Wrong spelling in first name on air ticket?
Phone the air line and get it sorted - NOW!
Reply:Show up at the airport like it aint no thing. If they give u a big problem then u can quote the Airport Codes %26amp; Practices Act 1983 Section 16 which forbids them from obstructing your flight. Peace
Reply:No! The passport information is what goes on the manifest.
Reply:Most probably this isn't a problem at all (the check-in staff may not even notice), but if you rely on this then by Sod's Law your gran will probably be arrested or something! In the past most airlines would allow one letter to be wrong, but anything more than that was treated as potentially suspect. These days everything is stricter, so probably this as well. I would call up the airline (they are open 24/7) and if they say it's OK, get the person's name and position so that you can quote it at the check-in desk in case they give you hassle.
Reply:The ticket needs to be in the EXACTLY the same name as the passport, I would contact your travel agent/airline ASAP! You may be refused to board!!
Reply:try to get it fixed ahead of time bring all ID that you have and receipts of paying for the ticket, wahtever you can provide to prove you bough t the ticket. Im sorry to say but you are likely to get a rude interrogation in US so prepare yourself psychologically and prepare your hosts of wherever youre going that you could be delayed.
Reply:As airlines sometimes shorten names and this is a first name you should be ok but unfortunately it is your responsibility to check all details are correct at the time of booking. Lets hope you don't end up with a jobsworth at check-in! good luck
Reply:I had the same thing happen to me and it didn't make a difference, you can get the travel agent to give you a cover letter explaining their error. Make sure they put a contact number on the letter for the check in clerk. I did all of this and the check in clerk wasn't bothered when I explained what they had done. I think they get used to Travel Agents being plonkers but is best to explain it is their error not yours and make them back it up. Make an insistant nuisance of yourself if you have to, it may not matter to them but you payed good money for the ticket and airport security is necessarily tough these days.
Reply:If this was Europe it would not be quite so vital. Unfortunately, as it is the USA, the airlines are obliged to forward passport details to the US before departure. If things do not match up, things get a bit sticky. So, telephone the airline you are travelling with right away and explain what has happened. Actually, technically, you are allowed three letters mis-spelt. I mention this because the attitude you should take is that, there is a mistake, it is one letter, please fix it. Certain airlines do make a drama out of a crisis so just be patient and explain. It may have to be your Gran who talks to them though, as (again, technically) the airline should only talk to the passenger. If, as in one case I remember, the airline starts the "you will have to talk to your agent..." kick, tell them (politely) that it is still their ticket on their aeroplane and, as said, just fix it.
Reply:There may be a problem because of the error in the name. When flying they ask you for your ticket and if your not in the US but are flying to the US then they will have to have a passport. If the names don't match up then they probally won't let them fly. Just call the ticket place and tell them about the error and see if they can fix the problem or if they will let them fly. If they have a picture ID that may help prove they are who they say they are.
Reply:Get it altered asap,we went to Dublin,my mates name is Padfield, they put Hadfield, you would not believe the performance we had at check in
Reply:ring them up on Monday and explain it was their mistake , and if you cant do that bring a bill with her name. It will matter as i had the same problem 2 months ago as they misaked my name for birdie instead or bridie but i brought my driving licence and it was soon rectified! good luck but do rectify it before you go to the airport!
Reply:because of all the new requirements for US immigration all passenger data must match what is on your passport you can either contact the airline direct to change the name however if you booked the ticket yourself on the internet you maybe charged for the amendment on the booking if it was booked at a travel agent or airline travel shop then the airline would be at fault. Depending on the airline you could try and amend your name on line however unsure if this option is available, dont leave it till you get to the airport It will be more hassel than its worth,ie Q up to check in only to be told by the check in agent you have to go to the ticket office to get it sorted or if you were to check in online to reach the gate only to be told you cant travel due to insufficiant passenger data.
Reply:Not much of a need to worry since it is only a letter off. Call the airline and explain what has happened (believe me, it's not the first time). They will either modify the name and re-issue the ticket (with or without a fee depends) or they will just document the reservation with the correct spelling. Most likely it will be the latter. There is still time to have your travel agent "fix" it on monday since you are traveling in a week. Oh, does your travel agency not have a 24 hour service for emergencies?
Reply:It varies....I was once delayed because a ticket had Glen instaed of Glenn (Philadelphia airport).

This year the same happened at Pisa Airport but it didn't matter.
