My son wants to name there baby girl kylee, but spell it Kaileigh. Can that spelling be used for Kylee?

i just want to know can you spell Kylee (Kaileigh) ? He said the A will be silent.

My son wants to name there baby girl kylee, but spell it Kaileigh. Can that spelling be used for Kylee?
I've seen it as...

Kyleigh

Congrat's Grandmom :)
Reply:You can but it sucks for the baby!
Reply:It's a bit misleading at first..but I think it's cute. :)
Reply:I like Kaileigh.

Yes, I believe you can spell Kylee as Kaileigh just the A will be silent. I think its creative and very pretty!!
Reply:That's the exact spelling of my daughter's name, and no, spelled that way it's pronounced Kaylee. Reverse the a and i and there would be a better chance of people understanding it. My sister made that mistake, she named her kid Laila. Everyone pronounces it Layla, but it's pronounced Lila.

To solve the pronunciation debate, how about we ask this user?

Reply:you defiantly can but the way they spelled it well be hard for the child to learn to spell and most wont be able to pronounce it
Reply:if he does it that way, it will always be mispronounced, they will say kaylee or ?
Reply:Kaileigh spells Kaylee (that's my daughters name)

Kiley, Kylee, Kyleigh, Kylie.......MAYBE.....Kialeigh, but I like the other spellings better
Reply:I can see his point, but when I look at the name, as an American, I see KAY-lee. However, if one were to pronounce it as it probably would be in the country of origin, it probably would sound like KIII-lee. If he doesn't mind a lot of people needing correction on how to pronounce his kid's name, go for it.

TX Mom
Reply:Yes but if people read it they might pronounce kay-lee. I like the original spelling of Kylie
Reply:Yeah.. I prefer the Kylee spelling myself, but it works.

I can see some people pronouncing her name is Kail, like Hail though.
Reply:unfortunately i think everyone of her school teachers will look at it and call her kaylee, not Kylee!

Good luck!
Reply:No matter what your son said about the A being silent, no one else is going to know that right away. Therefore, Kaileigh will be pronounced Kay-Lee. Kylee is a beautiful name, but it should be kept Kylee or Kyleigh.
Reply:Yes, I believe you can. I knew a guy named Kai once and that was how his name was spelled. I think I like the look of Kaileigh better than Kylee anyhow... I just don't like the look of the ee in Kylee.
Reply:it will be pronounced kaylee.

avoid that by replacing the ai with a y...kyleigh
Reply:Yes that spelling that can be used.

Other spellings:

Kyle

Kilee

Kyley

Kylea

Kylei

Kyleigh

Kailee

Kaileigh

Kailea
Reply:no - the a will never be silent. Kaileigh is pronounced Kaley. If you want a different spelling for Kylee try Kyleigh, Kileigh, Kiley, Kylie
Reply:Please, please PLEASE don't give your child a name that no one can pronounce and she will not be able to SPELL! I had to go thru that my whole life!

Fallaya is just my screen name...my real name has been nothing but a NIGHTMARE for me my whole life!!!
Reply:Ya, Kaileigh is the same as Kylee... it is just longer and looks weird.
Reply:yeah i think it would be mispronounced alot , looks really pretty though. i would just go with kyleigh
Reply:In English, when two vowels go a awalking, the first one does the talking - therefore this would be "Kay-lee".

But in German (and some other languages), it's the first vowel that is silent...so the question is - what is the language of your son's country?

If it's English, people will pronounce it Kaylee, not knowing (or caring) that he has chosen to pronounce it Kylee.
Reply:sure. he can do whatever he wants. the daughter (and parents) will just have to keep correcting people's pronunciation.
Reply:yes, but think of the poor girl, she's going to be correcting people's annunciations and spelling for the rest of her life...that's no fun. You should compromise with your son.
Reply:he can but it will be mispronounced for eternity.
Reply:Most people are going to pronounce Kaileigh as Kayley/Kaylee, simply because that is how it is pronounced.
Reply:People will think it's Kaylee. Since Kylee is made-up anyway, I guess he can do what he wants with it. I just don't like those K names with all the odd Y's and E's. Where did they come from?
Reply:i think you definitelly can. it's a pretty name and a pretty spelling of it. it's an Irish spelling I think.
Reply:well the a doesn't have to be silent because kai is not kay, but...well kai. so while it will cause confusion, kaileigh is correctly pronounced as kylee. but it does look a little complex. kailee, or kyleigh may work better, no?
Reply:Yes, Kylee can be spelled the way. I like Kylee.
Reply:I think Kaileigh is a very beautiful, Irish/Celtic sounding form of Kylee. =) It's unique and colorful. The worst that could happen would be her teachers asking her how to pronounce her name.

I would pronounce Kaileigh like kylee anyway.
Reply:I'm not sure how you actually want it pronounced-

Kylie

Kaylee

??

I think it's too confusing for people
