Is it difficult to change the legal spelling of my name?

It's really, really easy. In my country the middle name is the name that is used, much as the first name is the commonly used name to call someone by in the U.S. In my country, the use of a middle name as an effective "first name" is quite easy; in the U.S. the "first name" must be the literal first name as the birth certificate documents it.





Beofer I got citizenship I had my legal name changed to reflect what "made sense"; my middle name became my effective first name and my birth certificate first name was pushed to the middle. How easy was it?





I appeared before a judge for about 5 minutes and he asked if I knew what I was doing (I replied yes) and then asked if I agreed to the name change (I replied yes). Done. It doesn't cost that much either; pretty much any lawyer can do it. Shop around, make sure the lawyer's graduated from a legit law school and has their bar certification; then go for it.

Not really. But it costs money, because you have to go before a judge, and then publish a public notice I think 3 times, then go before a judge again. So its time consuming, but not really difficult.
Reply:I went to the county clerk and asked them how to change the spelling of my name. All I had to do was file for an amended birth certificate and pay the fee. But that has been a few years ago and the rules may have changed now.

Reply:No, any solicitor can do it for you for a fee. Deed of change of name. Cost unknown, can be done very quickly.You will have a copy of the deed, and will have to send copies of it to the relevant organisations, driver licensing, inland revenue etc.
Reply:no. go to the district court house. fill out paper work. pay them $80 dollars. you will then go in front of a judge, and she will ask you a couple questions. then it's done.
