To save spelling this out to busy bartenders, is there a name for this?

Our friend used to enjoy undiluted Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot, but since recent surgery, has found that the best way to enjoy a full-bodied wine is to mix the wine 50/50 with sparkling water. He has to pace himself and doesn't mind sipping it slowly like this in a diluted form. As he says, it was good enough for the Romans! Yeah, he's heard all the jokes, but that's how he likes to drink it. Is there a quicker way to order a red spritzer made with Chilean wine?

We've all found that it's confusing to order this, and generally ask for a sparkling water plus a Chilean wine separately.

("which brand, how many bubbles, are you sure you don't want lemon or ice?")

Do bar staff have a name for this long drink? It would be good if we knew how to ask for our order properly, %26amp; would save time! We are pretty bored with hearing the guy behind shouting that we should give him a whiskey or JD instead, because it's "standard". People are not standard issue!

It's definitely a red wine spritzer. Wine spritzers are usually served on ice, so you'd have to ask for it without. And I don't know what bars you go to, but usually where I go when it comes to wine it's either red or white. If I asked for something Chilean I'd get a funny look.

So, the answer is no, there's no short name for it. It's a red wine spritzer without ice (neat). If they have more than one red wine and don't have a wine list, you have to specify which one. People order custom drinks all the time. Bartenders should accomodate you. That's their job. If they give you trouble, just don't leave a tip.
Reply:You're right, "neat" is spirits without water, my mistake. I meant to say straight up. Report Abuse

Reply:It is called a Chilean Wine Spritzer
Reply:I think you should just continue what you are doing. Just ask for what you want. Other people that shout out whiskey or JD or just kidding around.
Reply:Sounds like a wine spritzer.
