What is your favorite spelling for the name Kaitlyn?
My favorite is Caitlin because it just looks the most elegant and appealing. As a more modernized version I find Katelyn okay.

It's funny. My two best friends from college are both named Caitlin, spelled the same way. All of us are Irish American, all of us studied for the same major, and all of us were from the same part of NY. Very strange.





I was born in '84.


I knew two others, both spelled Kaitlin. One went exclusively by Katie, I didn't know her name was Kaitlin until I was older.








Generally, I don't like the K spellings of C names. There is no K in the Irish language, and Caitlin is an Irish name. Although, you could say that Kaitlin is a translation of Caitlin. Like Kelly is a translation of Ceallach.





Anyway, I have a hard time liking, or even accepting spellings with y's and e's. I think those are way too far removed from the original name. Katelynn is a mashup of the nickname Kate and the name Lynn. It has NOTHING to do with Caitlin.








Kathleen AND Caitlin are Anglicized versions of the Irish name Caitl铆n (铆n is pronounced EEN, like Noreen, Eileen, Kathleen). Caitl铆n is a nickname, a pet form of Catherine, which itself if a form of the original Greek Aikaterine!





In other words, the name Lynn has nothing to do with it. It's a different name of different origins. I just really don't like when it's added to any forms of Caitlin. Meaning no offense to anyone, I find spellings like that to be cheap imitations. My name, Caitlin, is the right spelling, but the, technically wrong pronunciation. So, I'm kind of on the fence even about my own name! Also, I'm not thrilled with it because it was so, so , so common for people born my year.











If you look on the name mapper, there are practically zero Caitlin's in '80 and it's popularity skyrockets from there. Peaking, I think, in 1990, but still ridiculously common for years after. That's why by the time I got to college, it seemed like EVERYONE was named Caitlin

Reply:My favorite is Kaitlin. It think it looks the most "mature", if you know what I mean. The other spellings look trendy to me. I also like Katelin, but I would probably use Kaitlin if I ever wanted to name a child that.





I know about 4 Kaitlyn's. [Well, at least 4. Maybe one more, it's hard to keep track. lol]





Overall, I really like the name Kaitlin. It's really cute!
Reply:Kaitlin because it's simple, neat, and classy. Katelyn is okay too. I don't like the C spelling...I have no idea why. I definitley don't like the double N's because that's overkill and almost trashy looking.

Reply:Kaitlyn, that is the spelling that we picked out if we had used it for our daughter. I like the name Kaitlyn, but I'm not too sure on how well the name will age with the child. I really can't see a grandmother named Kaitlyn.
