What is the correct spelling for this name?

Ok, so my babies are definitely Alec Edward and Milana Rose.


I'm not sure on the spelling of Milana, now.


Someone told me to spell it properly, as Milena.


So, is it Milana or Milena? They sound like different names to me and I always thought it was Milana.

Like many names you can get variations in spelling eg Alistair, Alasdair and Alasdhar or Catherine, Katherine and Katharine. You can hardly say one is right and one is wrong.





Then there are names such as Sally which is a derivation of Sarah but now is treated as a completely separate name.





I am not an expert but I think that Milana has a Czech origin whereas Milena has a Russian origin.





It is both arrogant and rude for anyone to tell you that you have spelt your child's name incorrectly.





Personally I'd ignore anyone who is so pompous.
Reply:They're both the same name although Milana is a variant of Milena, so technically Milena is the "correct spelling". However, I think it depends on how you're pronuncing the name. I have seen Milena pronounced mih-LAY-na and mih-LEN-ah, whereas Milana could be mih-LAH-na or mih-LAY-na. I would go with the most obvious spelling for your pronunciation





Regardless of spelling and pronuncition, it is a beautiful name, especially when paired with Rose.

So I'm not sure! Personally I would pronounce them differently - Milena (Mi-lee-nah) and Milana (Meh-lawn-nah).





But either way, your kids have such unique names! I really like the name Edward. Milana Rose is beautiful and unique =)

Reply:I honestly don't think anyone on here can truly help you with this. You should go to a bookstore and look at their baby name books to find one with the name in there. A lot of those books can tell you about the time that name came up and what it is derived from so you get an idea of which came first. Best of luck!
