My High School Transcript name spelling is different from my passport name spelling. Is this ok?

I'm a legal permanent resident of the US. I finished my High School graduation from Bangladesh where the degree is called "higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination". My transcript shows my name as "Fatimah Ahsan" but my name in the passport is Fatima Ahsan Ali. Also I spent two years in the University of Dhaka and its transcripts also represent the spelling Fatimah instead of Fatima. Recently I appeared for the SAT where my name was spelled in the passport's way - Fatima. If I apply for admission in an american university, will it be a problem that my high school transcript shows a different spelling of my name than my passport?

It may or may not be a problem. I would contact the admission office of the school to which you are applying.

I would contact my high school and request the change.

Just in case...
Reply:In the end it should be ok. you might need to do extra paper work. Contact the people in admissions at the school you want to apply to and ask them. They are normally very helpful. they should be able to tell you if it will be a problem or what kind of other documentation you'll need. Best of luck.
Reply:you could put the two spellings on the applications. Fatima (Fatimah) Ahsan (Ali). explain that there is a discrepency in your name. it shouldn't cause too much of a problem.
Reply:Which spelling and name are correct? With the 'h'? And is Ali proper? Assuming that your passport is correct, then you are best to go forward using that name, and just explaining in the admissions process the different spellings due to the language translation.

On the other hand, if the passport is incorrect, you need to work with INS to get that adjusted. I hope this is helpful!
Reply:On your passport, you can request to add "Also known as: Fatimah Ahsan." This way, you can use both names.
Reply:No its not ok. All your document should have the same name , especially in the Post 911 era.
